Apex InputField on Force.com Site

Osama | February 17, 2010

I came across a strange situation today when I was trying to use a apex:inputField tag and call it on a visualforce page through force.com site. But the field wasn’t visible when seen on public force.com site.

This is what I did

 public class testClass
          {
               public Account acc {get; set;}
          }

and here is the visualforce page

<apex:page   controller=”testClass”>
<apex:inputfield value=”{!acc.Name}”/>
</apex:page>

I also changed the permissions in Force.com guest user profile. But still I wasn’t able to make the field visible. I think its a limitation from security point of view.

If someone else has experienced the same thing or has any recommendations, do let me know.

Consulting Basics

Osama | February 16, 2010

Last week I attended a workshop on soft skills that was specifically organized for consultants.The workshop was conducted very well by  Mr. Junair Noor, VP Operations at Sakonent.

The idea of the workshop was to develop interpersonal skills that are important not only for consultants, but anyone who is leading a professional life.

First, we were told the difference between IT consultancy and traditional software development. IT consulting focuses on advising businesses.  It tells how best to use information technology to meet their business objectives irrespective of the software tool/technology.. And on the other end, Software development is only to Produce/create software.

Later on we were told how to behave as a consultant. What are the DOs and DONTs in being a consultant.

There are certain points that I would like to mention. These will be helpful for every one I believe.

  • Manage expectations
  • Take ownership of your tasks
  • Take pride in your work
  • Attention to details
  • Listen ..then ask relevant questions
  • Engage the client throughout the project
  • Your image is the company’s image
  • Be professional
  • Be Proactive…not reactive
  • Accept meeting invites or provide alternate meeting times. Do not ignore the requests.
  • Be on time for meetings
  • Send questions ahead of time
  • Send meeting notes afterwards–with action items and due dates.
  • Point out your projects’ progress every week to the client

The above mentioned points are self explanatory and don’t require any explanation. I am sure these will be helpful for anyone who reads it.
